Flight attendant tells passengers to stop wearing 1 item of clothing on planes

A flight attendant has told plane passengers to stop wearing a common item of clothing when travelling. According to Amanda, it's something she would never advise.

People can put a lot of thought into their outfits when travelling on planes, but tourists have been advised to stop wearing a certain item of clothing. It's advice well worth listening to as it comes from a flight attendant, as she said she's seen so much in her job that there are particular things she'd never do herself.

If you're planning to travel any time soon, you may want to pay attention, especially as holiday season is starting to get into full swing. Amanda, known as Only With Amanda on TikTok, shared her top travel tips to help people out, eager to tell tourists what they should and shouldn't do.

It's not the only guidance of its kind to be shared before either. A few weeks back, passengers were told wearing something else is also considered a bad idea when travelling.

Amanda said there are certain things she'd "never" do as a flight attendant, and one of them is wear shorts, tank tops or basically anything that reveals too much skin. She wrote: "The seats are never disinfected so I always wear long sleeves or hoodies and pants or sweatpants."

She also said you never want to walk around without shoes on, as she's seen "all kinds of things" on the floor during her time at work. The flight attendant shared some other tips, but these were her essential points of guidance when talking about clothing.

While you may be tempted to get into the holiday spirit by slipping into a pair of shorts to travel, it's best to avoid it. It turns out there are key reasons why.

The video has got people talking online. They shared all different kinds of thoughts.

One said: "Barefoot has to be the worst." Another added: "I almost always take my Crocs off when I’m flying for long flights.

"I don't know how anyone could wear shorts, because planes are usually freezers and I’m wishing I brought a jacket."

A third also replied: "Another one I do is travel with an extra set of clothes on my personal item, as it sometimes will be hard to get in my carry-on."

Why should you avoid it?

While shorts aren't banned on planes, it's generally advised people avoid wearing them for hygiene reasons. This is because exposed skin can come into contact with bacteria and germs on unclean plane seats, tray tables and windows.

Little you may know, plane seats are not always thoroughly cleaned between flights. This means bacteria from previous passengers can remain on the surface.

Wearing long trousers acts as a barrier against these germs. As well as this, planes are often cold, and long trousers offer protection against low temperatures and potential injuries during emergency evacuations.

You may have never thought of this before, but trousers can protect your skin from burns on emergency slides and protect legs against scrapes during an emergency evacuation, if one was to occur. There are more benefits to covering up than you think.

It's also always best to wear something comfortable when travelling. After all, some journeys can be pretty long.

This is why Amanda's advice is worth following. She's someone who knows what she's talking about.
